Pak may loose Pashtoon belt in few years: cables

According to latest disclosures of WikiLeaks, during a Nato briefing in 2008, A US intelligence officer on South Asia said Pakistan might loose control over Pashtoon belt in some years to come.

Though Pakistani officials reckon Taliban a threat to their national security, however, Taliban’s help has stayed continued from Pakistan by several means, the leaked cables quoted intelligence officer as alleging.

The briefing took place on November 25, 2008 in Afghanistan.

In a letter written on December 5, to US Defense Department, he linked situation in Pakistan’s tribal belt, battered with Talibanization, to growing security fears in Afghanistan, fearing that no stability in Pakistan’s tribal belt would be amounting to more security fears to US troops in Afghanistan in 2009.
